What is stock in accounting?

Stock in accounting represents the goods, raw materials, or products the company owns to sell or produce.

Types of Stock

  • Merchandise: products purchased to be resold as-is
  • Raw materials: used in production
  • Finished goods: manufactured by the company
  • Work in progress: currently being manufactured

Stock is part of current assets in the balance sheet.
