What is stock?

Stock refers to all goods, raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished products held by a company at a given moment. The value of stock appears on the balance sheet and directly impacts the company's cash flow and profitability.

Types of Stock in Business

  • Safety stock: Reserve to handle unforeseen situations.
  • Active stock: Normal order quantity used between two replenishments.
  • Dead stock: Obsolete or unsaleable items to be cleared.
  • In-transit stock: Goods ordered but not yet received.
